History
Powerhouse Fitness is the trading name of Laidir Leisure Ltd - Private Limited Company Reg No. SC71827 founded in 1980 by David P. Webster OBE. The word "Laidir" is Scottish Gaelic for "Strength", which is very fitting for David, as Scottish Highland Games, Strength Training and Weightlifting continue to be his greatest passion!
David is a world renowned historian on Weightlifting, Strength Sports and Highland Games and has been involved in the industry since the 1940’s. He is author of over 40 books, still holds world records in Strand Pulling and received the OBE for services to sport from Her Majesty the Queen at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace in 1995. David set up the business in 1980 as a ‘not for profit organisation’, buying in weights and strength equipment and passing on to SAWLA (Scottish Amateur Weightlifting Association), of which he was president at the time, at cost price.
David Senior went on to become President of the Commonwealth Games Committee for Scotland, was Chief of Mission and the 1998 Malaysian Commonwealth games and was made a Life Vice President of the committee.

The Birth of Powerhouse
Having been surrounded by sport and fitness from childhood, David’s sons have had an interest in the fitness industry from an early stage. In 1983 David’s son Nigel joined the business and in 1986 David junior joined him, whilst David senior took a back seat and let his son’s focus on growing the business. In 1986 the Company adopted the Trading Name ‘Powerhouse Fitness’.
In 1987, Powerhouse Fitness launched their first Fitness store in Argyle Street, Glasgow. In the early years, the company focused on the sale of commercial products to sports clubs and gyms, as well as building up a retail base in Glasgow. By 1997, the Company had outgrown their initial premises and opened a second Glasgow store. From there Powerhouse Fitness has gone from strength to strength and is now the only UK Fitness retailer to operate from as many as 13 locations.
Milestones
30 Years and Growing
By 2011, Powerhouse Fitness had grown to a turnover in excess of £13 million, over 90 permanent employees and operating from 13 different locations. Powerhouse Fitness is one of the largest and longest established fitness equipment suppliers in the UK.
Powerhouse Fitness own renowned brands such as Bodymax Fitness, Smart-tec Nutrition, and Vibratrec, and are UK distributors for Ziva Life, Infiniti Fitness Products and Bodycraft Strength Products
They currently operate via several sales channels, Retail through bricks and mortar stores, E Commerce through various websites including www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk and www.sportfood.co.uk, B2B sales, both direct to end users and our distribution wholesale division, and Head Office based telesales division.
In August 2011 the company opened their 1st dedicated nutrition store under the brand name ‘Sportfood’. The new store is located in Buchanan Street, Glasgow there are plans to roll out more Sportfood stores, both as Company Owned and Franchise.

Confirmation of Order
When you have submitted your order, you will receive an e-mail receipt letting you know it was placed successfully. If there is a problem with the order, such as a credit card decline or backorder, you will be e-mailed within 24 hours. Never again will you be left wondering!
Warranty
The majority of products are provided with an on-site warranty. This basically means if your product develops a fault, Powerhouse will send an engineer to your home to fix it. For a small number of items a ‘back to base’ warranty will be in operation. In these cases Powerhouse arrange for collection of the faulty product, repair, or replace it, and return it to you. Powerhouse Fitness will cover all carriage costs for products covered under ‘back to base’ warranty.
