Acceleration Training™ (on the ground) was first used by Soviet cosmonauts in the 1960s to counteract the bone and muscle degeneration caused by zero gravity. It is considered to have been responsible for the cosmonauts’ exceptional record of staying in space for over 400 days, more than three times as long as their American counterparts.
In 1999, Dutch Olympic Trainer Guus van der Meer adapted these techniques. First, for elite athletes and then for people of all ages, weights and fitness levels. The Power Plate® “revolution” began.
